This week some very interesting data came out from a survey into how SMEs are marketing by http://blog.merchantcircle.com/ . Here are our take away point from the results.
Most Popular Marketing Channel

Over 65% of SMEs are promoting their business using Facebook which has a 10% lead over Google.
Most Effective Marketing Channel

Facebook again is leading here, and surprisingly there is no Google option until we get to Pay-Per-Click Advertising which only 15% of SMEs consider effective. We think this is probably down the way Google has set up Adwords which tries to force you into using broad match expensive keywords which never convert and swallow £100s in a day if you don’t know what you’re doing. Facebook is a lot easier in this respect, a page is free, interacting with potential customers on related pages is money free, however can be time expensive. Email Marketing is a surprise high performer.
Are You Using Facebook Ads? If so, Will You Use Them Again?

Almost 80% of SME’s aren’t using Facebook Ads yet, this could mean there are some cheap marketing opportunities on Facebook for your business.
